Beyond the glitz and glamour, the USA offers travellers an amazing opportunity to delve into a myriad of diverse cultures, landscapes, and experiences. It’s the fourth largest country in the world, and not far off the size of the entire continent of Europe – meaning there’s a chance to meet people from all walks of life. From the buzz of the Californians to the storied history of Boston’s population – and that’s not counting the amazing people in the group that you meet when you travel with The Coyote Trip!
The Coast to Coast tour is group backpacking in America taken to new heights. From exploring the infamous sights to mixing with the locals, it’s a tour that offers both a fresh take on American classics and a chance to immerse yourself in communities across America.
New York
The Big Apple – the city that never sleeps! While you might be most familiar with all the famous sights – The Statue of Liberty, the Empire State, the Brooklyn Bridge – it’s the buzzing undercurrent that really brings this city to life. Explore the hip Williamsburg district with local bars as far as the eye can see, wander Chelsea Market for the community’s tastiest food, and explore the culturista’s paradise of Bushwick for its homegrown street art and outdoor murals.
Washington DC
While that big old building slap-bang in the centre seems to make up most of Washington’s global personality on first look, it’s home to a lot more besides. In amongst the Capitol and the National Mall, you can explore the historic Georgetown with its 100+ restaurants and buzzing waterfront, try the local staple at Ben’s Chili Bowl, or spend some time in the evening with the community at a local jazz bar.
Philadelphia
Once you’ve taken in the Liberty Bell, you might think that Philly doesn’t have much else to offer. Wrong! Spending a day here proves that it really is always sunny in Philadelphia – with a local food scene that offers staples like cheesesteaks and a wealth of urban art that demonstrates the talents that lie within the local community.
Boston
Anywhere with a population as diverse as Boston’s means it’s packed to the rafters with a great food, nightlife, and a busy local culture. You can head to the home of the Red Sox for a game or explore Harvard to feel like Zuckerberg – but it’s what’s in between that you’ll love more. Think locally-caught lobster rolls, delicious cannolis in Little Italy, and a trip out to sea in a local boat for a spot of whale-watching.
Las Vegas
Once you’ve made the journey from East to West, landing in Vegas might feel like swapping the local scenes for bright lights and casinos. And while all of that is fun, it’s not all that a trip to Vegas has going for it. Once you’re finished with the magic shows and pool parties, venture to locally-owned restaurants like Dona Maria’s for the best Mexican food in town or to Fremont Street for live music. While a trip out to the Grand Canyon fulfils a bucketlist dream for many, you can tandem this with visits to local establishments in Grand Canyon Village and a chance to learn about the history of the Native American communities there. And then on the way back to Vegas, learn about the local history of Seligman – which inspired the creation of Route 66 (and Pixar’s Cars!)
Los Angeles
On to your final destination: the city of Angels, home of make-believe. While you can spend some time exploring the well-known highlights – Griffith Observatory, 3rd Street Promenade, the Wax Museum – a Coyote Trip makes sure that you see everything else that LA has to offer. Home to a diverse cultural population, you can explore local eateries to try more cuisines than you can shake a stick at, learn volleyball on the beach from an expert in the community, and spend your hard-earned cash at an independent business through the Buy Local Santa Monica initiative. What’s more, you’ve also got the chance to help give back to the locals by participating in a beach cleanup to help keep the marine environment safe.
