West Coast America Tour Stops

Day 1: Las Vegas

Your West Coast Adventure starts today! You’ll meet your Adventure Leader in the mid-afternoon in the lobby of your hotel. If you’re arriving beforehand, you could head to the Daylight Beach Club or Wet Republic for a beach party, or you can hang by the hotel’s pool.

This evening, you’ll join your group for a trip briefing. Here, you’ll learn about what you’ll be getting up to on your tour, and give you safety advice and tips for adjusting to American life.

We’ll then kick off with a walk down Vegas’ iconic Strip, ending up at the flashy Cosmopolitan food court to grab some dinner. If you’re after a big first night, we can point you in the direction of Vegas’ finest nightlife…

Day 2: Las Vegas

Your morning is free to do as you please. If your evening was late, you might want to recline by the hotel’s pool. Or, if you’re feeling more energetic you can get up and out, paying visits to Caesar’s Palace or the Venetian.

Meet your group in the early afternoon to embark on the Viva Las Vegas tour! You’ll head all around the city’s famous sights, including the Vegas sign, the immersive AREA15 experience, and all the highlights of the Arts district.

This evening, you’ll all dine at Dona Maria’s – a Coyote Trip favourite for its Mexican food! After this, you’ve got the option of joining us at one of Vegas’ legendary shows – whether it be a classic magic show or one of the high-end musical extravaganzas.

Day 3: Grand Canyon

We’re checking out of the hotel this morning, bound for our next destination – Arizona, and the Grand Canyon! Making a pitstop at Trader Joe’s to load up on snacks and drinks for the long journey, we’ll climb on board our private van and set off.

On the way, we’ll make a quick visit to the Hoover Dam. Stretch your legs with a brief hike to the top of the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge to learn about this feat of engineering – and snap an iconic photo. We’ll also stop for lunch, where you can eat your Trader’s snacks in Locomotive Park in the scenic Kingman, Arizona.

Towards the end of our drive, we’ll also check out the rustic Seligman. It’s the birthplace of Route 66 – and the inspiration for Pixar’s Cars! Arriving into our cozy cabin in the early evening, we’ll check in and freshen up before heading out. It’s time for dinner and games at the Frontier BBQ and Beer Garden!

Day 4: Grand Canyon

This morning we head off for the Grand Canyon! You’ve got the whole day free to hike – but if you want a recommendation, try the Rim Trail! While the whole thing is a whopping 21km, there’s shuttle stops dotted throughout, so if you get far out and don’t fancy the return journey, you can hop on it and return to Grand Canyon Village.

For a full list of day hikes, you can visit the National Park Service’s website: https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/day-hiking.htm

We’ll rendezvous this evening at the Hopi House, next door to the El Tovar Hotel. Here, we’ll watch the spectacular sunset and wait for the stars to come out, before we grab the shuttle back to our cabin camp. Then it’s time for s’mores around the campfire before bed.

Day 5: Las Vegas

It’s time to head back to Vegas, but not before we’ve had some more fun in Arizona! After grabbing a breakfast at a local country café, we’re going axe throwing! There’s also the opportunity to visit a gun range, where you can learn about America’s complex relationship with weapons.

After lunch and a spot of shopping in the hipster-cowboy paradise of Williams along Route 66, we’ll jump in the van to return to Las Vegas. Arriving late afternoon, you can choose to cool off at the pool before spending your evening as you please. You could head to Fremont Street for live music, get your pulse-pumping by going zip-lining, visit the MOB Museum, or try your hand at karaoke at the Star Wars-themed Millenium Fandom bar!

Day 6: Los Angeles

This morning you’ll depart Vegas for the next stop on your West Coast America tour – LA! You’ll arrive at the Santa Monica hostel in the early afternoon, where you’ll meet your new guide in the lobby. This evening, why not take a wander around the shops on the 3rd Street Promenade? While you’re there, grab yourself some dinner – for a Coyote Trip recommended option, head to Trejo’s Tacos!

After this, you’ll meet back up with your group for a beach stroll while the sun sets. Join the Coyote Trip arcade challenge on the Santa Monica Pier!

Day 7: Los Angeles

Rise and shine! You’re up early to start the day like a true Angeleno – with beach volleyball! You’ll get a private class from a local expert, who’ll teach you the basics of the sport. If you’re feeling like you want to take a dip in the sea after, don’t forget your swimsuit!

Next, we’ll take the metro to the world-famous Sunset Boulevard. Here, we’ll take a quick pitstop at In-N-Out Burger, before we head on over to mingle with the celebrities on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Can you spot your favourite?

After that, you’ve got some free time in the area. You might want to shop for souvenirs – or, alternatively, you could head to the Hollywood Film or the Wax Museum! We’ll rendezvous later this afternoon, ready to grab the metro to Griffith Park.

We hope you’re wearing your walking shoes! It’s time to hike up to the spectacular Griffith Observatory – grabbing views of the iconic Hollywood sign as you go. Once we’re there, we’ll watch the sun set over the City of Angels and explore the area, before we head back down and back to the hostel.

Day 8: Los Angeles

Today is a free day for you to explore LA under your own steam! You have a few options:

  • You might want to visit one of LA’s famous theme parks! Spend your day exploring either Disneyland or Universal Studios – how many rides can you fit in?
  • Alternatively, you could visit the sites of all your favourite TV shows and films. Take a tour of the Paramount or Warner Brothers Studios.
  • If you’re not finished exploring the local area, you could chill on Venice Beach, try your hand at in-line skating, or bike down the boardwalk.
  • Finally, if you’d like to give back to the local community that have made you feel so welcome, you might opt to spend some time volunteering with Heal the Bay. Established in 1985, Heal the Bay organise coastline clean-ups to remove trash from LA’s beaches and seas.

Day 9: Yosemite

Today, you’ve got another early start as we head to our next amazing destination – Yosemite! You’ll grab the metro to Union Station, ready for a bus & train combo to Merced. Take in the views on the way, or indulge in a siesta as you whiz across California.

You’ll arrive in the late afternoon, ready to transfer to your mountain resort hostel. Once checked in, drop your bags and head to the June Bug Café, ready for a well-earned dinner.

Day 10: Yosemite

You’re up with the birds today, ready to catch a pre-8am Yosemite-bound bus!

Once you’ve arrived, you’ll meet with a local specialist, ready for a guided park through the stunning National Park. After a few hours, you’ll be given the opportunity to explore the Park for a couple of hours under your own steam – so if there’s somewhere you simply must go, ask your guide for recommendations of good walks, hotspots, or the ultimate sights to see. We’ll convene in the late afternoon, ready to transfer back to the accommodation.

Once back, you’ll have some time to unlace your walking boots before heading back to June Bug. Here, you’ll be able to treat yourself to food and drinks, toasting to another day of adventure.

Day 11: San Francisco

Off we go to our next stop, as we depart Yosemite, heading to San Fran, the final destination on our West Coast America tour. We’ll grab the Amtrak, where after a couple of hours, we’ll pull into Oakland and transfer to the hostel downtown.

Once you’ve dropped your bags this afternoon, we’ll take you to stretch your legs with a street art and culture tour of the city! Along the way, you’ll wander through Union Square, Chinatown, and the North Beach neighbourhoods. We’ll end up at the House of Nanking, where it’s time to join your group for a meal. This San Fran landmark serves the best Chinese food in the area!

Day 12: San Francisco

Today is another day to explore on foot!

In need of some Vitamin Sea? Then it’s a good job we’re starting our day with a trip to the beautiful Ocean Beach, isn’t it? We’ll spend some of our morning there and at the Golden Gate Park, before heading to the hip Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood. This area was the birthplace of the 1960’s counterculture movement, and you’ll learn all about the history of the locale.

You’ve got some time to grab a picnic lunch – which you can enjoy in Alamo Square. Here, you’ll have a picturesque view of the Painted Ladies, grand Victorian houses with vibrant colourful exteriors. Back on your feet, you’ll head down Lombard – the most crooked street in the world – all the way to Fisherman’s Wharf.

After this, your evening is yours to spend at your leisure! There’s a couple of things you might want to do:

  • If you’ve got a sweet tooth, why not try out the Ghirardelli Chocolate Experience?
  • Alternatively, for the best in pasta and pizza, dinner in Little Italy might be more your speed.
  • Finally, if you’re baseball-mad, you could always see if the Giants are in town!

Day 13: San Francisco

You’ll start the morning riding in style – on a classic San Fran cable car! We’ll head on this down to the city’s most enduring image… can you guess what it is? We’ll rent bikes to take the ride of a lifetime, across the Golden Gate Bridge to the enchanting Sausalito, known for its floating homes. We’ll grab the ferry back across the Golden Gate (that’s the name of the strait!) in time for lunch with a view at the Joinery Beerhall.

After this, you’ve got some free time this afternoon to see any last sights you’ve missed in the City by the Bay. If you’d like some options:

  • Head to the Ferry Terminal. As well as being the departure point for the city’s boats, the stunning building also boasts artisanal local markets where you can buy food, drinks, and gifts.
  • Visit Pier 39 – the premiere entertainment district in SFC. Home to shopping, dining, events – and sea lions! – you can spend some time exploring everything the Pier has to offer.
  • The Mission District is known as one of the city’s most buzzing areas, and it’s not hard to see why. Packed with trendy boutiques, eateries, and amazing street art, it’s home to many Latino-owned businesses. You can head to Dolores Park, or take a self-guided tour of all the outdoor murals.

This evening, you’ll rendezvous with your group for a final meal and night out in the city.

Day 14: Farewell

This morning, your West Coast America tour comes to an end. You’ll check out of your hostel – from here, you can either make your own plans, or join us for an optional visit to the world-famous Alcatraz Island!
