Statue of Liberty: We know it’s obvious, but it’s so popular for a reason! During the ferry ride over to Liberty Island, breathe in the salty air and snap the statue from the water. Take your time wandering around this fascinating statue, and even longer in the gift shop!
Central Park: This gorgeous park gives the city dwellers a chance to relax in the greenery and escape the endless queues of traffic, sirens and people. Set out a good few hours to wonder around the park, sit in the sun or wrap up warm for a brisk stroll; it’s beautiful in every kind of weather.

What to do:
Venice Beach: This is not your typical beach. Jump into the water on a hired surfboard and get a lesson from the pros, strap on some roller skates and roll through the streets, or simply lie back and soak up the atmosphere. Spending hours at this beach is a must; you can never get bored!
Hiking the Hollywood sign: You can’t visit Hollywood without doing this, it will be one of the most memorable experiences of your life! Hike from a nearby car park, ideally at sunset.
Food: Take the time to visit the eclectic fusion restaurants throughout LA. Here you will find some of the best food in the world, a big American burger is a must – but not to worry if you’re vegetarian or vegan, LA offers some of the best healthy and sustainable alternatives.
Universal Studios: Roller Coasters may not be your thing, but Universal Studios is so much more. Our personal favourite theme park (although there are plenty to choose from), spending a full day here will not be wasted!

What to do:
Golden gate bridge: Stroll along the bridge or hire a bike, you will be spellbound at the spectacular views either side of you. It really is a must-see, photographs don’t do it justice!
Alcatraz: We all know the dark rumours and secrets surrounding Alcatraz, the place of nightmares. Set on an island and the scene of a historic dramatic breakout, visit the prison and find out why this prison holds the fame it does… Some even say it’s beautiful.
Stroll through the streets: The best part of San Francisco is just exploring the city streets, strolling through the hip districts, bar hopping, grabbing coffee and visiting museums. Get to know the city and embrace everything it has to offer; our favourite districts are Mission District, Castro District and Haight Street.
Wine Tasting in Napa Valley: Known for having hundreds of hillside vineyards, Napa Valley is a beautiful day trip from San Francisco. Wine tasting and gourmet food is the perfect way to spend a day away from the city! Read about the different wineries here.

What to do:
The White House and US Capitol: If you get the opportunity to see The White House, it really is worth it. The gravity of its historic and political position really hits home as you stare at this grand building. But don’t just stop there, head over to the US Capitol for a truly jaw dropping visit.
Jazz bars: It’s not all politics in this city, spend your nights listening to the city’s best jazz in dark bars sipping cocktails. We love this scene, and there’s no better place to get involved than the home of Duke Ellington.
Museums: Washington DC offers a vast array of diverse museums. The majority of the museums are free, our favourite is the recently developed Museum of African American History and Culture.
