St. Mazie
If Brooklyn is ‘where it’s at’ for a night out then Williamsburg is the ultimate neighbourhood in the borough. It’s one of the Big Apple’s trendiest neighbourhoods, filled with the young and arty types. No surprises then that it’s got some pretty terrific bars (it’s where we do our bar crawl on The Coyote Trip!).
Among these bars is St. Mazie. This place manages the balance between, relaxed, affordable, and having a cool edge incredibly well. Live jazz music is often being played there and it maintains a lively atmosphere without being too intense. We also love it for its laid back vibe and excellent value cocktails.
Skinny Dennis
Here’s another of our Williamsburg favourites. Skinny Dennis is no secret as a bar – it’s one of the neighbourhood’s most well known and is always likely to be busy. This place defines itself as a New York ‘honky tonk bar’ adding a drop of country music of the southern USA to New York City. Its cheap drinks and lively atmosphere make it a safe bet if you’re looking to kick a night into gear. (We make a stop there on our own bar crawl.) As a bonus, Skinny Dennis also has regular (often honky tonk) live music performances.
Harriet’s Rooftop
Looking for something a little more classy? Harriet’s rooftop is very popular and with a very different vibe to some of the dive bars of Williamsburg. That’s not to say it’s a rip off by any means. This Brooklyn rooftop bar offers high quality cocktails and most importantly, offers some stunning view of the city. Located right by the bay you can enjoy an excellent view of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge while you sip on your drink. Heads up: booking ahead is a good idea to make sure you get a table!
Berry Park
Located just north of Williamsburg, this one is our rooftop bar of choice when we visit Brooklyn. Berry Park provides an excellent view of the Manhattan skyline along with an extensive beer menu and an addictive foosball table. It’s a casual place serving classic bar food and it’s impressive view plus its expansive rooftop area make Berry Park a great bar to start the night.
Erv’s on Beekman
Erv’s on Beekman is a little out of the way of our Brooklyn bar crawl stomping ground. In fact, it’s pretty hidden altogether. We wanted to get this one in due to the diversity of what it offers. Located just on the edge of Prospect Park, Erv’s is a coffee shop by day and a cocktail bar by night. Along with that, it serves delicious food ranging from pastries to salads to tacos.
