1) Hit the beach
Cape Cod has over 500miles of pristine coast line, and 40 miles of that is a National Seashore, which is similar to a National Park, meaning that the natural and ecological beauty of these stunning shorelines are well protected. Race Point is one of our favourites and we’re in good company it seems as it’s also rumoured to have been a favorite beach of President J.F.K. There are some truly stunning sunsets and sunrises to enjoy over a cool drink.
2) Check out the Pride Parade
Provincetown, or P’town as most locals call it, is known to be one of most LBGTQ friendly places in America, so if you’re there in August be sure to sure to check out the Pride Parade when the whole town comes to life..
Even when the parade is not on then the town itself is a real treat and is packed with a whole series of quaint shops and artisan cafes. It’s an awesome place to wile away an afternoon and watch the world go by. Our adventure leader will advise on some of our favourite cafes and bars too.
3) Grab a lobster roll on the pier
With so much fresh seafood arriving into P’Town daily off the local fishing boats, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to great food on the Cape. Our favourite are the lobster rolls. Grab one by the pier and devour the juicy chunks of lobster set in a soft white bun.
4) Bike through nature trails
The conservation efforts underway on the Cape have lead to an abundance of scenic bike routes and what’s even better is that the Cape is a sand spit, meaning there are no hills to deal with! There are many stores to hire bikes from in P’Town, and from there you can head out on the well maintained trails – we like the Province Lands Bike Trail. Do be warned though that Cape Cod is one of the more expensive parts of America so 24 hours bike rental can set you back over $25 – we think it’s worth it though as the bike does give you access to so many lovely, quieter parts of the Cape.
5) Browse the book shops on Commercial Street
The Cape is the perfect escape from East Coast city life – here you can live life in the slow lane and spend a few quiet days with a good book. There is no where nicer to pick one up than in one of the small, locally owned book shops on Commercial Street, where the thoughtful owners take the time to recommend just the right one for you. On your way down Commercial street, be sure to stop for a gelato, a must-do on one of the hot summer days when the Cape is at it’s most idyllic.
We love Cape Cod for it’s slow pace of life, stunning beaches and friendly local people. The Coyote Trip stops by there towards the end of our East Coast Adventure, and we do hope that if you can join us on this adventure, that you’ll love it just as much as we do.
